Prof. Timothy Noël

🇳🇱 University of Amsterdam

🎓 Resume
Timothy Noël received his MSc degree (Industrial Chemical Engineering) from the KaHo Sint-Lieven in Ghent in 2004. He then moved to Ghent University to obtain a PhD at the Laboratory for Organic and Bioorganic Synthesis under the supervision of Prof. Johan Van der Eycken (2005-2009). Next, he joined Professor Stephen L. Buchwald at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow, to work on the development of new continuous-flow methods for cross-coupling chemistry at the MIT-Novartis Center for Continuous Manufacturing. He became assistant professor in 2012 and associate professor in 2017 at Eindhoven University of Technology. In 2020, he was promoted to Full Professor at the University of Amsterdam where he is the Chair of Flow Chemistry.

🏆 Awards and distinctions
2017: DECHEMA Award
2015: Thieme Chemistry Journal Award
2015: VIDI Award from NWO
2013: Marie Curie Career Integration Grant
2012: European Young Chemist Award
2012: VENI Award
2011: Incentive Award for Young Researchers

🔍 Research Interest
The aim of the Noël group is to build bridges between chemical engineering and organic synthetic chemistry. The research encompasses the development of new catalytic strategies and technologies for chemical synthesis, and is built around three axis:

  • organic synthetic chemistry;
  • catalytic methodologies;
  • continuous microflow.

⚙️ Project in CHAIR
#9 Continuous-flow C(sp3)-H activation of aliphatic moieties using photo- or electrochemical activation
