European Meeting on C-H Activation

In January 2024, we held the CHAIR closing conference. The “European Meeting on C-H Activation” was organised by Prof. Alexander Kirillov and his team, from the Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST)/ University of Lisbon, with the support of the management team from the CNRS. The event took place in the the Pavilion of Knowledge (Pavilhão do Conhecimento – Centro Ciência Viva), in Lisbon, Portugal.

During those two days, we welcomed over 90 researchers from all over Europe, at very various stages of their career: MSc students, PhD students, postdocs and senior researchers, coming from academia as well as industry. On top of our own ESRs presenting their research, we selected 11 external speakers to give an Oral Communication, and 19 posters were presented. We also gave the floor to our Project Manager to close the conference and tell the audience about what happens behind the scenes, with a strong emphasis of the transversal training programme provided to our ESRs and all the great benefits and opportunities provided by MSCA doctoral programmes.

Importantly, 4 renowned keynote speakers accepted our invitation to represent the excellence and diversity of the field of catalysis and C–H Activation:

The European Meeting on C-H Activation was a great conclusion to 3 years of collaborative and multidisciplinary research within our consortium, training our ESRs to become leaders in their fields and pushing boundaries of chemistry to discover new C–H activation methodologies. We would like to warmly thank everyone who organised, contributed, attended, sponsored, making this Meeting a great success!

Following 2 days of excellent scientific discussions, our consortium enjoyed one last day of socialising and team building at Capo Espichel and Sesimbra.

NB: in practice, CHAIR will officially end at the end of 2024, so our story is not over yet; however, we wanted to ensure that all our ESRs could attend and present their research before graduating and moving on to their next career step.
