On the 24th May 2023, Elisa LAI (ESR12) and Dr Magnus Johansson from AstraZeneca, were invited to a school near Gothenburg to introduce concepts of chemistry to grade 3 students (10 years old children). The researchers performed a series of experiments in front of 2 classes of 25 students each.

The experiments concerned the states of matter (gas/liquid/solid); using dry ice and liquid nitrogen, the concepts of acid/base using pH indicator; reducing permanganate ion with the sugar contained in lollipops, where the kids observed a gradual change of colour of the solution; as well as the burning notes experiment. A Q&A session was also organised where the students could ask a variety of questions.
